Founded in 1976, the Layo Teraga Cooperative has been a lifeline for smallholder farmers in Guji, offering vital market access where opportunities were once scarce. In a region where coffee prices historically lagged behind neighboring Gedeo and Sidama, the cooperative’s efforts have brought recognition, stability, and pride to its 1,841 members.
Nestled in the northern Uraga district of the Guji zone, these farmers cultivate coffee in home gardens set within semi-forested environments, at breathtaking elevations reaching 2,342 MASL. Here, coffee thrives in rich volcanic soil and cool mountain air—conditions that nurture both biodiversity and exceptional flavor.
Cupping Notes
Blackberry · Grapefruit · Papaya · Raspberry · Rhubarb · Rosemary
Vivid fruit tones layered with bright citrus and a hint of herbal depth—lively, clean, and expressive of Guji’s highland character.
