Nova Coffee is led by Agnes Mukamushinja and Felix Hitayezu, a nurse–pharmacist team whose path to coffee began in Kigali with Pharmacie Nova. In 2015, they entered the coffee sector with a clear mission: to improve community livelihoods through stronger farming practices and a women-centered approach to processing. That commitment took physical shape in Bukure, where they purchased and rebuilt an aging washing station into a professional hub for local growers.

Agnes’s connection to coffee runs deep. In her home village, many coffee trees were lost during the genocide — trees her father had spent decades supporting as an agronomist. At Bukure, she drew on every available resource, from government trainings and NAEB programs to Rwanda’s IWCA network, building a model rooted in access, education, and opportunity. One expression of this work is Le Café de Mamans, a roasted coffee produced with 263 women farmers of the Berwa Cooperative and sold domestically.

Today, Nova Coffee receives cherry from three cooperatives — Jyambere Muhinzi Wakawa, Dukorere Kawa, and Berwa — along with nearby smallholders. Their team includes a full-time agronomist, experienced operations leads, and quality control manager Celeste, who oversees processing and drying. Through continued experimentation with natural and anaerobic processes, Nova is expanding quality, market access, and long-term resilience for farmers in the Bukure sector.

Roasted to a medium-light profile, this natural coffee opens with honeycomb sweetness and warm caramel tones, followed by soft black tea. Bright cranberry and lingonberry notes emerge toward the finish, adding lift and clarity to the cup.
